This classic crime thriller features Priscilla Lane as Jean Sherman, and Gladys George as Panama Smith. Gladys George was nominated for Best Actress in 1936. The movie simultaneously pays homage to gangster movies from the early 1930s and has become a classic itself. Directed by Raoul Walsh, the movie is based on a short story “The World Moves On” by columnist Mark Hellinger and was written by Jerry Wald, Richard Macaulay and Robert Rossen. Sparks fly with strong performances from Cagney and George as the cast navigates the uncertainty of the post-WWI world and the disruptive 18th Amendment. The dialogue will hit you as hard as the action sequences in The Roaring Twenties.
